Background
Genesis graduated from St. Edward's with a Master of Arts Degree in Counseling, with her specific concentration being in Clinical Mental Health. She also has a Bachelor of Science in Behavioral Neuroscience, developing a thorough understanding of the brain and the nervous system, regulation strategies, and their effects on mental health and symptom presentation. She has experience helping clients experiencing anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, domestic violence, LGBTQ+ issues, medical trauma, and chronic illness/disabilities, and strongly believes that mental and physical health go hand in hand and have the potential to influence one another in significant ways. Genesis also has a special interest in working with neurodivergent individuals and their families, as she has previously provided therapy for children on the autism spectrum and has worked with neurodivergent adults as well. She hopes that by leaning into more person-centered and narrative approaches and meeting clients where they are without judgement can help facilitate discussion in a non-pathologic manner where clients can gain more agency and understanding surrounding the themes and patterns present in their lives.

Why I Chose To Practice in Mental Health
I chose to work in the behavioral health field so I could be a practitioner who truly helps a client feel heard, valued, and supported. Through my professional experience, I have heard several times how clients have often felt dismissed at the hands of therapists, doctors, and other practitioners, in addition to people in their close personal circle. Everyone deserves to feel not only supported, but understood as well. A lot of behavior isn't well understood at first glance, and issues can be magnified by misunderstandings and varying perspectives. Helping clients navigate through these issues and being a consistent, supportive presence is one of the necessary factors for positive change to occur.
