Prescription Management

Prescription management at our clinic is designed to support safe, consistent, and timely care. We follow evidence-based guidelines, federal and state regulations, and clear internal policies to ensure medications are prescribed appropriately, monitored regularly, and refilled responsibly. Our goal is to minimize disruptions, promote continuity of treatment, and provide clear expectations so patients know how and when prescriptions are managed.

Important Update on Telehealth Prescribing of Controlled Medications for 2026

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), working with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), has issued a fourth temporary extension of federal telemedicine flexibilities for prescribing controlled medications through December 31, 2026.

Effective Dates
This extension is in effect from January 1, 2026 through December 31, 2026, helping prevent interruptions in care while permanent federal rules are finalized.

What Is Allowed
Clinicians may continue to prescribe certain controlled substances via telehealth without an initial in-person visit under federal law.

Medications Affected
The policy applies only to controlled medications, including stimulants, benzodiazepines, and some sleep aids.

Who This Impacts
This primarily affects new patients who would otherwise need an in-person visit to start these medications. Existing patients are not affected and may continue care under current prescribing rules.

Pharmacy Policies
Some pharmacies may decline to fill controlled prescriptions issued via telehealth. This is typically due to individual pharmacist discretion or internal pharmacy policy, not federal law or DEA rules.

What To Do
If a pharmacy declines to fill a prescription, patients may need to contact other pharmacies directly to find one that will accept it. Once a pharmacy is confirmed, patients should notify the clinic so the prescription can be redirected. The clinic does not have visibility into which pharmacies will or will not accept telehealth-prescribed controlled medications.
